How To Transform Your Pool Area Into A Tropical Paradise

by Harvie Simms

If you have a swimming pool on your property, there are several things that you can do to upgrade it to become more like a vacation area than a backyard pool. You can use materials that complement your swimming pool, transforming it into a tropical oasis that you can escape to after a long day at work. Here are some ideas that you can use to make your swimming pool feel more like a relaxing retreat than a backyard functional pool.

Making Some Pool Upgrades

If your pool is in need of a new liner, pick something that will make your pool feel extra refreshing on a sizzling hot day. Blue toned liners give the appearance of a crystal clear cool area to jump into. The color alone will entice you to jump into the pool. You can add some tiling to the sides of the pool area to add a decorative touch. A company like Pebbleworks Pool Surfacing can do the work for you.

Add Some Lighting

Lighting can make a huge difference in the aesthetics of your pool area. Add some underwater lamps to your swimming pool to encourage night-swimming. You can have some tiki torches spaced strategically around your pool deck, to give a tropical feel to your area.

The Deck Area

The decking area can be changed to feel tropical with the use of different woods. Wood pavers and wood or wrought iron fencing will give your area the feeling of the tropics. The darker the color, the better.

Plants will do a big part of the tropical feel. Plant some hibiscus, tiger lilies and greenery with palm-like leaves. Any flower in an orange, pink or red color will make your area feel like one of the tropics. Place these in large planters to put in areas around your deck.

The furniture that you pick can make a difference, as well. Place a few sun chairs on your deck for days that you wish to tan in the heat. Have a table area for when you want to have lunch or drinks out on the deck. Use darker colors and put a large sun umbrella over the table to keep shaded on warm days.

Adding Fun To The Pool

Adding a waterfall to your pool can increase the value while making it feel like a vacation area. You can have rocks installed in a pattern that will allow the water to trickle over them, adding to the relaxation of your pool. Consider adding a swim up tiki bar to the side of your pool. This is quickly becoming an addition that is gaining popularity.
